Learn German with professional language courses (Berufssprachkurse)

These courses build on the integration courses. You will improve your language skills and learn how to communicate in everyday working life. You need a certificate of eligibility from the BAMF, job centre or employment agency to take part.
What are professional language courses?
Vocational language courses are German courses that help you in working life. The aim of vocational language courses is to help you integrate quickly into the training or labour market. In the vocational language courses, German is learnt for the job.
The courses are for people who are looking for a job or are already working and want to improve their job prospects.
Course details
Duration
- ≈ 5 months to 6 months
- Monday to Friday
- mornings or afternoons
Compulsory attendance
- You must attend lessons regularly. Your attendance will be monitored.
Examination
- German test for the job (DTB) with target B2 level
Costs
- The BAMF pays 50 % of the costs
- If you pass the DTZ exam at B2 level, you will receive 50% of your own costs back under certain conditions

Exemption from costs
The course is free of charge if you:
- Citizens' benefits (SGB II), unemployment benefit (SGB III) or social assistance (SGB XII) or benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act.
- are registered with the Federal Employment Agency as jobseekers not receiving benefits.
- work but have an annual taxable income of less than 20,000 euros (single) or 40,000 euros (married).
- are in an apprenticeship (§ 57 Para. 1 SGB III) or an introductory training programme (§ 54a SGB III).
A travel allowance is available for people who receive benefits and live more than 5 km from the course location.
Participation requirements
To take part in a professional language course, you need:
- Certificate of eligibility from the job centre, employment agency or BAMF
- German language skills at B1 level
